Bridge Information
The Heshbon Bridge is a great example of Pennsylvania’s standard plan in the 1930’s and 1940’s, although it is relatively small. The bridge was built in 1941 and is a Parker through truss. Because of it’s small size, the bridge has a shallower portal bracing design than many of the other standard bridges. Unfortunately these standard bridges have not been assessed as historic by the historic bridge inventory, and many are being demolished to make way for newer bridges.
This bridge was rehabilitated in 2009, which indicates that it won’t be replaced anytime soon. This project included painting the superstructure, deck replacement, and other miscellaneous repairs.
