Bridge Information
The Pine Creek Bridge Rail Trail is a 62-mile-long trail that runs from Wellsboro to Jersey Shore in Pennsylvania. This alignment was originally a Native American path, that was repurposed for logging in the early 1820’s. In 1883, the Jersey Shore, Pine Creek and Buffalo Railway opened to carry timber to the sawmills. The railroad was also used to ship coal north to New York State. This railroad eventually became part of the New York Central Railroad and then Conrail. It operated with freight and passenger service until 1988, when Conrail ended rail service. The tracks were removed, and the first section of the rail trail opened in 1996. The trail continued to open in stages, with the latest section being opened in 2007. The trail is operated by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
There are numerous bridges along this rail trail. All of them appear to be built around 1902 by the American Bridge Company. This bridge is a three-span ten-panel rivet-connected Baltimore through truss bridge.
