Bridge Information
The Beebe Dam Bridge was built in 1997 to connect Cornell’s central campus and north campus. The previous bridge at this site was a “temporary” bridge that was built in 1960 and was closed in 1995 due to severe deterioration.
This bridge incorporated some high-tech solution in an attempt to extend its service life. There is an electric de-icing mat embedded in the concrete deck which significantly reduces the need for de-icing salt. In addition, the concrete deck utilized a micro silica concrete mix surface in order to make it last longer, and the railing is constructed from non-corrosive aluminum.
