Bridge Information
Beer’s Bridge is the only access across the East Branch of the Ausable River to six residential properties. It is a four-panel pin-connected Pratt Half-Hip Pony Truss. The official construction date is 1900, but based on the style, the bridge is more likely from the 1890’s. In addition, the original location of this bridge was somewhere in Lewis, NY, although the exact location is unknown. It was moved to its current location circa 1925 after a devastating flood washed away many small bridges in Keene. Moving and reusing obsolete bridges was a common occurrence during this time period,
The bridge still has a wooden deck, although it was replaced at an unknown date. In 1993, the floor system was reinforced by I-beams. The truss does not appear to be tied to these new beams, which means that they are not actually carrying any load from the bridge. However, the bridge is still considered to maintain its historic integrity since the trusses remain unaltered.
